Peak Week Essentials: Be Prepared, Be Confident

Preparing for your bodybuilding competition is not just about getting physically ready; it's about ensuring that you are mentally and logistically prepared as well. We understand that the journey to a competition can be both exciting and overwhelming, which is why we've created a list of things for you to do during peak week because we know it can be totally overwhelming preparing for a show and we don't want you to have to rush around last minute. All the hard work you've put into months of training deserves a moment of shining on that stage, and preparation is the key to making it happen.

PEAK WEEK PREP…

  • Confirm show registration

  • Screenshot your registration and payment

  • Buy any needed tickets for your “must-have-there” friends and family

  • Get your hair cut/trimmed/dyed/extensions

  • Get your nails done

  • Exfoliate your entire body

  • Shave your body hair or get waxing done

  • Discuss with your coach the game plan for the week and if they’re doing water manipulation, sodium manipulation, carb-loading, adding any extra supplements, etc.

  • Finalize your posing – walk-out routine, transitional steps, comparison round posing

  • Ladies, clean your show day heels and make any repairs

  • Make any needed adjustments to your competition suit

  • Prepare a back-up competition suit… just in case

  • Plan your show day hair and make-up and, if you can, do a trial run

  • Book your makeup artist and/or hair stylist if you’re going that route

  • If you’re doing your own hair and makeup, purchase the needed supplies

  • Get a hold of the show day schedule so you can time out your meals

  • Get directions to the show location

  • Pick a friend/family member to take pictures/video of you on show day

  • Create a list of all the things you’ll need for Show Day (see THIS article -- we wrote it for the female competitors but much of it can apply to the men, but we'll write up specifically for the men soon, don't worry.)

  • Purchase anything from your Show Day list of items that you don’t yet have

  • Pack your bag with all your needed items for Show Day

  • Create a list of needed foods for Show Day, from meals to snacks and any drinks

  • Purchase your needed foods

  • Prepare all your meals and snacks the day before Show Day

  • The day before Show Day, attend the athlete sign-in and explore the event space and surrounding area so that you’re comfortable and know where to get last minute stuff at nearby shops if a situation arises

  • At the athlete sign-in, get your competition suit approved

By confirming your show registration, taking care of your grooming, finalizing your posing, planning your meals, and organizing your essentials, you not only ease anxiety but also set yourself up for a smoother and more enjoyable experience. This is your time to shine, and being confident and ready will allow you to step on stage with grace and poise, giving your absolute best. So, let your preparation be your guiding light as you step into the spotlight and showcase your dedication, strength, and artistry on the stage you've been working so hard to reach. You've got this!
