From an Organizer's Lens: the Unseen Struggles of Organizing a Bodybuilding and Physique Contest

Preparing for a bodybuilding show involves a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, and attention to detail. Recently, Prep Life had the privilege of interviewing Jivan Bermudo, co-organizer of Mr. San Juanan 2023 and San Pedro City Bodybuilding and Physique Contest. In this exclusive interview, Bermudo shed light on the behind-the-scenes challenges, unseen work, and the motivation behind his independent contests.

When it comes to event management, unexpected obstacles can arise. Bermudo candidly shared the struggles he faced during the organization of these shows. "I had tons of problems in that event, and the management was very unprofessional," Bermudo stated. From a venue change to issues with the backdrop and air-conditioning, the road to success was not without its fair share of obstacles. Despite these challenges, Bermudo's commitment to the athletes and his passion for the sport kept him going.

One silver lining in the midst of the struggles was the athletes' satisfaction. "Fortunately, the athletes were very happy in that event because I provided them with a lot of products, even though the cash prize was not substantial," revealed Bermudo. It is clear that his dedication to the athletes and their overall experience played a vital role in making the event memorable for everyone involved.

Beyond being a co-organizer, Jivan Bermudo's involvement in the bodybuilding industry runs deep. Having served as a former IFBB National Judge, he possesses an in-depth understanding of the sport. Additionally, Jivan is a proud member of Team Alpha GenetiX, Team Para Pharma Ph, and Team Ninong. His connections with these teams further enhance his expertise and network in the bodybuilding community. Furthermore, Jivan's craftsmanship in crafting trophies and medals for WFF contests since 2019 showcases his dedication to elevating the competition experience. With his vast experience, knowledge, and strong affiliations, Jivan consistently delivers unique and independent contests that truly celebrate the art of bodybuilding.

We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to all the athletes, sponsors, and fans who participated in and supported Mr. San Juanan 2023 and the San Pedro City Bodybuilding and Physique Contest, sponsored by Mayor Art Mercado, Para Pharma Ph, Kojie•san | men Kojic, A1 Protein, PROTHIN, Get Wheysted, and Anytime Fitness Galleria South. Your unwavering dedication and enthusiasm, along with the support of our sponsors, were instrumental in the success of these events. When asked if there were anyone in particular Jivan wanted to thank, he noted his friend/teammate, Mick Antonio Ang, who “always supports me in my events and contest preparation”.

As we recognize the unseen effort and hard work that went into making these shows a reality and reflect on the challenges faced and the lessons learned, we embrace the idea that we win some and learn some. The experiences gained from these events will serve as stepping stones to build even better and more remarkable showcases in the future. Let us utilize what we have experienced here to elevate and enhance the upcoming events, providing an exceptional platform for bodybuilders to thrive. Together, let's continue to celebrate dedication, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence in the world of bodybuilding.
